The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth holds a book fair to celebrate Sur as the Arab Tourism Capital

Oman: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, represented by the General Directorate of Knowledge and Cultural Development, announced the holding of a book fair in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate in the Wilayat of Sur, during the period from October 27 to November 2, 2024 AD.

The exhibition coincides with the celebration of the city of Sur as the capital of Arab tourism, and is a culmination and activation of the Ministry’s role in supporting the cultural movement and enhancing cultural development efforts in the governorates and states.

Ahmed bin Saud Al Rawahy, Assistant Director General of the General Directorate of Knowledge and Cultural Development, said that such cultural participations contribute to advancing the cultural movement, supporting the publishing movement and book industry, and strengthening partnerships with publishing houses and local libraries, in addition to caring for the book and the reader, and meeting the aspirations of members of society who are interested in culture and knowledge.

Al-Rawahy added that holding such exhibitions comes from the constants of the cultural strategy in supporting production and activating the cultural role of civil institutions and initiatives, to consolidate the community partnership system, activate its role, find outlets for publishing and promoting it, and enhance joint work between government sector institutions, the private sector, and civil society institutions.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth has allowed participation in this exhibition for government institutions, publishing houses, libraries and cultural institutions.

Participation in the exhibition requires the availability of a minimum of forty titles for libraries and publishing houses, provided that they have a valid commercial register, and participation is limited to books and publications only. Libraries that have exclusive agencies can also participate in the exhibition.
