The newly inaugurated hypermarket, under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mustahil Bin Salim Shamas, Governor of South Al Sharqiyah, is the first outlet in Sur, the boat-building capital of Oman. The inauguration of the new Sur hypermarket coincided with the 48th National Day celebrations of Oman.
Talking to Times of Oman on this occasion, Yusuffali M.A., Chairman and Managing Director of Lulu Group said, “We are thankful to the visionary leader His Majesty Sultan Qaboos and the government of Oman for giving us all the help and support.”
While keeping up to the Omanisation policy of the country, Yusuffali informed that the Group has employed more than 2,500 Omani employees across all the hypermarkets, a number that could rise to around 3,000 next year.
“We are going to reach up to 5,000 employees as we are planning to open six new branches next year and about 10-12 the year after,” he added.
Yusuffali said that they plan to reach people in all the big and small cities of the Sultanate. “Instead of people coming to us, we decided to go to them and provide with good quality, service and price.”
The store, that is spread over an area of about 150,000 sft, is situated in a strategic location on the highway that connects Sur and Quriyat. The hypermarket showcases a fresh food section comprising a wide assortment of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, poultry, meat and fish, in addition to a hot food and bakery section.
This hypermarket also houses a huge area dedicated to a department store, which sells garments, electronics, IT products, stationary and home appliances.
