Al Ayjah Fort
22 views
Al Ayjah Fort lies in Al Ayjah and is called the Castle of Al Hamouda. It is an architectural structure in the shape of a square, containing many rooms designated for learning and for the administration of the region's affairs in the past, and it has four towers overlooking
the coast, and the Castle of Al Rafsa, which was used in the past to guard the main gate of the wilaya's entrance from the
overland road, to the point that an iron chain was placed on it to stop those entering or leaving for security and guarding purposes.
The defences in Al Ayjah include a wall and a tower on the western side, and a series of small towers to the south of the fort. Among the most important towers of the fort is the Ras Al Mil tower, which lies on a high hill; it is likely that this tower was built in 1347 AH.
