Writer Salem bin Mohammed Al Ghailani
Salem bin Mohammed Al Ghailani was born in the city of Sur in 1944. He received his early education there, then left for Kuwait to continue his studies, and completed his university education, graduating in Baghdad.
Al Ghailani held several important positions: he worked in teaching and in educational administration in Kuwait during 1961–1968, then worked in the United Arab Emirates as Director of Education in the city of Al Ain until 1971, when he assumed the post of Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate. After three years of hard work establishing education in the country, he was transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to serve as the Sultanate's ambassador to various countries until 1978, when he was transferred to the Ministry of Heritage and Culture as Adviser for Folk Heritage and head of the Literary Forum until 1996.
Al Ghailani has several publications, including (From the Songs of the Sea and the Desert – a poetry collection, "compiled and edited"), (Folk Literature in the Land of the Sail – a poetry collection, "compiled and edited"), (Omani Folk Poetry), (Lights on Omani Folk Poetry – a study and selections), (Afiyat Al Sawari), (Arabic Proverbs – Every Proverb Has a Story) and (Al Mutanabbi in the Mirror of Literary Criticism). He also has a forthcoming book entitled (Abu Al Ala Al Maarri – Poet of the Philosophers and Philosopher of the Poets, "a contemporary reading").
In addition, Salem Al Ghailani holds membership of many intellectual and cultural institutions, and has received many high national decorations.
