    Jaylah Beehive Tombs

The ancient tombs of Al-Jilah, also known as the Buruj Kabikab, are among the most prominent historical landmarks in the Wilayat of Sur, in the South Sharqiyah Governorate of the Sultanate of Oman. These tombs are situated high in the mountains near the village of Al-Jilah in the Niabat of Tiwi, at an altitude of approximately 2,000 meters above sea level. Distinguished by their unique honeycomb-like stone design, they date back to the Bronze Age, some four thousand years ago, making them among the oldest known evidence of civilization in the region. Archaeological studies conducted in 1991 revealed approximately 90 well-preserved tombs, constructed with remarkable precision using local stone, ranging in height from 4 to 5 meters. These tombs provide evidence of the development of the ancient societies that inhabited the mountains of eastern Oman and are a significant tourist and archaeological destination, attracting researchers and those interested in Omani history and heritage.

    Ras al Hadd Castle

One of the most famous forts in the Sultanate of Oman, it is considered one of the most important historical landmarks in the Ras al-Hadd district of Sur, in the South Sharqiyah Governorate. It was built on a high plateau overlooking the residential area, the main maritime shipping lanes, and the entrance to Khor al-Hajar, which opens onto the Sea of Oman. This fort controls the small, sandy coastal areas that form the easternmost corner of the Arabian Peninsula, and served as a settlement and land-based base for ancient seafarers in early history. The land of Ras represents an important center of activity and interest for archaeologists. The fortress consists of a main building and two towers separated by a large wall that is approximately 3 meters wide. The use of stones and plaster in the construction process contributed to the solidity and durability of the fortress building.
