Ras Al Hadd Discoveries
Excavations at the site of Ras Al Hadd in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, have revealed what is considered a prehistoric monument in the Sultanate of Oman. The building contains three rooms for two or three houses around a small courtyard. It is believed that some of the finds at this site may date back to the Mesopotamian civilization. Shell pieces used to make rings were also discovered, indicating that the entire area was used for many crafts. A limestone incense burner was also found, estimated to date back to 2200 BC. Two pieces of a stone vessel base (porphyry) dating back to the Egyptian civilization were also found, indicating the cultural connection between Oman and Pharaonic Egypt, as well as some women’s jewelry dating back to 2700 BC.
