Al Talia Sports Club was founded on 20/10/1962 in the State of Kuwait.
The team first began under the name "Al Alawi team", then its name was changed to "Sur", and then it was changed to the name "Al Talia" (the current name).
It is regarded as one of the first Omani clubs to make a Gulf tour to play several matches with Gulf teams, that being in 1969, including Al Ain.
Al Talia contributed to forming the Oman Football Association in Kuwait, where it worked to gather the teams there, 19 in number, brought together by a single league; Al Talia club monopolised the championships at that time.
Al Talia club had the lion's share of the players who joined the first national team of the Sultanate of Oman, seven in number, all of them being core elements of the team.
The first captain of the Sultanate of Oman's national team was the Talia player Muslim bin Abdullah Al Alawi.
The first goal scored for the Sultanate of Oman's national team in the Gulf Cup tournaments was by the Talia player Muslim bin Abdullah Al Alawi — the first captain of the Omani military team is the Talia player Muslim bin Abdullah Al Alawi.
The first Omani professional outside the Sultanate is the Talia player Mohammed Rashid Al Alawi.
