One of the most prominent, oldest and most famous clubs in the Sultanate; it bore the name of the Wilaya of Sur Al Afia, so it had to be coloured with the colour of its sea and its sky, and its achievements had to rise to the level of the name it bears, so that the Blue of Al Sharqiyah became one of the Omani football summits, and of course the play, the art and the passion had to become Surawi (of Sur).

Sur Sports Club - Oman Professional League
Sur Club was founded on 3/10/1972 and re-registered on 26/6/2002. It is one of the most prominent, oldest and most famous clubs in the Sultanate; it bore the name of the Wilaya of Sur Al Afia, so it had to be coloured with the colour of its sea and its sky, and its achievements had to rise to the level of the name it bears, so that the Blue of Al Sharqiyah became one of the Omani football summits. Although Sur Club was founded in 1972, its true beginning was in 1962, when the club carried on its activity in the State of Kuwait under the name "Al Ittihad Club" before changing to bear the name of the wilaya after the return to the Sultanate; the club began to take up its assigned tasks of honing the youth's talents and hobbies. Since football is the world's foremost popular game, the sons of Sur Club paid it the utmost attention and recorded the finest achievements, which have remained lodged in the minds of everyone who loved Sur Club. The first launch of the achievements was the club's winning of the His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said the Revered Cup for football, making it the first club to win the title in its first edition in 1972; and after that launch, specifically twenty years later, the Blue recovered its glories and championships when it won His Majesty's precious cup in 1992. The wheel of achievements turned after this year, and the club crowned its passion for titles in two successive seasons, 94/95 and 95/96, by winning the shield of the general league of first-division clubs, and the Blue continued reaping the precious titles, drawing joy on the faces of all its lovers, recording its achievements in letters of gold that do not fade from the memory of all who saw the brilliance of the Blue's champions. The year 1994 came, in Doha of good fortune, to confirm the extent of the brilliance the club's sons inscribed in the sky of Omani football, when they were crowned with the title of the eighth GCC clubs' championship for juniors, after gaining the junior championship at the Sultanate level the year before, adding to the club's treasury of achievements the most precious of the Gulf championships. The achievements continued at the first-team level, with it gaining third place at Gulf level twice in succession in 1996 and 1997, while the team won the Al Sharqiyah region championship in the 83/84 season — this aside from the many achievements in handball, tennis and athletics activities at the level of the Al Sharqiyah region. The club's stars: Among the stars whom the Omani fields will not forget — first, and the fields of Al Sharqiyah and Sur second — being among the most important of what the club gave to Omani sport and the Omani public, there are, from the old generation and the generation of pioneers: Ismail Ras Al Mal, Faiz Sbeit, Khairallah Marzouq, Ali Bu Abeer, Sbeit Anbar, Hamdan Al Dhahab and the rest of the icons; while from the golden generation of the nineties there are Salem and Suleiman Khamis, Mubarak Abdullah, Suhail Khamis, Salah Thuwaini, Mahfoudh Sultan, Ahmed Khamis, Mohammed Khamis, Saif Al Habsi, Yusuf Saleh and Matar Khalifa, at the top of the list of the Blue, the factory of stars across the generations. About the club's founding date, its honourable secretary Khalid bin Salem Al Mudailawi tells us, saying: "Although Sur Club was officially founded in 1969, its true beginning was in 1962, when the club carried on its activity in the State of Kuwait under the name 'Al Ittihad Club' before changing to bear the name of the great wilaya after the return to the Sultanate in 1971. The club's activity before this year was limited to football alongside cultural, social and artistic activities; and with the dawn of the blessed renaissance under the leadership of our master His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said the Revered — may God preserve him — in 1970, and with the process of building and construction that encompassed all parts of the beloved Sultanate, the club's activities began to develop, and the club began to take up its assigned tasks of honing the youth's talents and hobbies. Sur Club was distinguished by several names and nicknames by virtue of the achievements it made, crafted by stars who have remained firm in the mind: it is "the Doyen" (Al Ameed) for being one of the first clubs founded in the country; it is "the Blue of Al Sharqiyah" and the club of "the Homeland", for it served the national teams in all their squads — indeed, the number of players who joined its camp in one championship reached eleven players, that is, a complete team. Among the club's famous nicknames is "the Terrible" (Al Raheeb), which came to it after the Saudi artist Abdul Majid Abdullah, owner of the song, performed an artistic concert in honour of the Blue's stars following their winning of the Cup championship in 1992; as well as the nickname "the Nakhodas" after winning the Gulf clubs' championship for juniors, and "the Blue Wave", "the Captains" and "the Blue Storm", a new nickname that appeared after the team's great, sweeping level two seasons ago. As for the club's emblem, Khalid Al Mudailawi explains to us that it consists of a banner at the top reading "Sultanate of Oman", containing within it the (anchor), one of a ship's pieces of equipment for stopping and one of the symbols of the wilaya's maritime history, the Olympic emblem, the (sansala) — a chain of continuous, interlinked rings — a football, and the club's founding year, 1969. The club's secretary adds, about the most important preparations for the coming season: under the current administration headed by Mr Mohammed Khamis Al Farsi, sound planning, building the base and the future outlook for developing the various sports are the most important goals we strive for, alongside keenness to provide material support and the support of the club's members and affiliates, in order to appear at the level befitting the name of the wilaya and its youth, and to recover the old glories and the absent championships, in addition to creating the club's website soon under the patronage of the country's senior sporting figures. As for the football team, the early preparatory camp, the contracts with distinguished local players, and the return of the club's and the wilaya's sons to the team, such as Nasser Zayed and Yaqoub Salim and the rest of the contracts, in addition to the presence of the rest of the stars such as Walid Atti, Amer Sultan, Mohsen Saleh and the league's top scorer Gibrael, are all indicators that the team augurs reassuring, strong and indeed competitive results in the coming season. As for the most prominent former leaderships that took turns leading the club, they are distinguished names that achieved much for the club and its fans, and among them stand out, for example, the names of Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud Bahwan, Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Farsi, Khamis bin Muslim Al Ghailani, Juma bin Salem Al Kathiri and Abdullah bin Saleh Al Khamyasi, as the most important figures who led the club in the past; while the Blue's football stars, whom the Omani fields will not forget — first, and the fields of Al Sharqiyah and Sur second — are among the most important of what the club gave to Omani sport and the Omani public: from the old generation and the generation of pioneers there are Ismail Ras Al Mal, Faiz Sbeit, Khairallah Marzouq, Ali Bu Abeer, Sbeit Anbar, Hamdan Al Dhahab and the rest of the icons, while from the golden generation of the nineties there are Salem and Suleiman Khamis, Mubarak Abdullah, Suhail Khamis, Salah Thuwaini, Ahmed Khamis, Mohammed Khamis, Saif Al Habsi, Yusuf Saleh and Matar Khalifa, at the top of the list of the Blue, the factory of stars across the generations.
