From the commercial activity and economic prosperity that the city of Sur was experiencing came the distinctive Sur dress, which took its name as a mark of distinction from the rest of the regions of the Sultanate. The person of Sur used the finest types of fabric, of silk — or what is known as "Al Bareesam" — and of cotton, as well as sewing threads; these garments were therefore varied, men's and women's, and children's clothing was not forgotten.
