Nakhoda Ali bin Mohammed bin Khamis Al Ghailani

A sea captain born in Sur, known as the most astute of ship captains. He was distinguished by breadth of mind and patience, and was marked by composure and rationality in his dealings, as well as his knowledge of navigation, winds and the seasons for voyaging — north towards the Gulf, east towards India and south towards the East African coast
, in addition to his command of navigation instruments such as charts, measurements and principles.
