Nakhoda Hamad bin Ali bin Muslim Al Kathiri Al Ghailani
Nakhoda Hamad bin Ali bin Muslim Al Kathiri Al Ghailani: born in the Omani city of Sur in 1907, died in 2012.
He relied on himself in building and forming his character, learning the arts of navigation and voyaging until he became a navigator like his peers among the sons of Al Afia. He travelled to Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, India and Yemen, reaching the city of Hodeidah overlooking the Red Sea, and to Africa, reaching Zanzibar. He owned a number of ships, such as [Nour Al Bahr], which he bought in Zanzibar — of the sambuk type. He then joined Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Juwaid Al Ghailani in purchasing the ship [Fath Al Khair], also of the sambuk type, from Nakhoda Abdullah bin Mohammed Wad Abd Al Razzaq Al Sanani; he later sold his share to his partner in order to work thereafter as a master nakhoda on the ships of Nakhoda Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Juwaid Al Ghailani and other shipowners in Sur, such as Nakhoda Sultan bin Mohammed Wad Sama Al Ghailani, Sheikh Nasser bin Ali bin Nasser Al Ghailani, and the Al Hairi boom [Abd Al Wahid] of Mohammed bin Hamad bin Najim Al Ghailani and his brother Saeed bin Hamad bin Mohammed bin Najim Al Ghailani.
