Sea captains
Nakhoda Juma bin Salem bin Saeed bin Tabba Al Farsi
Born in the Omani city of Sur around 1860 and died around 1955. A navigator and captain noted for his knowledge of the sciences of maritime navigation. He had a thorough command of lines of longitude and latitude, the positions of the stars, the locations of countries and the secrets of the seas. He wrote a book on the maritime sciences, but unfortunately it was not preserved and was lost over time. Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Tabba Al Farsi confirmed that, after reviewing the book of Ibn al-Qatami, the aforementioned discovered certain technical and geographical observations and corrected the errors it contained. He travelled between Oman, Africa, India, Yemen and the Arab Gulf.
