Born in the Omani city of Sur in 1916 and, at the time this book was written, still living. Nakhoda Saeed is considered one of the nakhodas renowned for their skill in the sciences of maritime navigation. During his career at sea he travelled to Iraq, the Arab Gulf states, Iran, India, Yemen and Africa. He was among the few nakhodas who entered the Bay of Bengal and reached as far as Bangladesh; he also sailed across the Red Sea and reached the port of Hodeidah in Yemen. Nakhoda Saeed affirms that some nakhodas from Sur reached as far as the port of Massawa. He owned a number of ships and worked as nakhoda on several of them, such as: 1 = "Al Nasiri", of the sambuk type. 2 = "Fath Al Khair", of the sambuk type.
