Sheikh Khalifa bin Saeed bin Salem bin Saeed Makshan Al Mukhaini
When France occupied the Comoros Islands, which were under the protection of Sultan Barghash bin Said, France asked him to nominate an Omani figure to be a governor on behalf of France over the Comoros. Sultan Barghash bin Said nominated to them Sheikh Khalifa bin Saeed bin Salem bin Saeed Makshan Al Mukhaini, who was characterised by justice and wisdom; he won the love of the people of the Comoros and became beloved among them. After his death he left behind an Omani community, most of them from Sur, which still exists to this day.
Among his descendants remaining there until now were the head of the security service and his two brothers — one in charge of the airport and the other of customs — until the end of the 20th century, and their contacts with their motherland, Omani Sur, are still maintained.
